The Stranger Project

Many have given towards the Stranger Project, and we want you to know that we are still using your funds to help with housing. As many of you know, we bit off more than we could chew with the Oxford St. house. While we made significant progress and were nearing completion on one side of the duplex, we lack sufficient finances, man power, and energy to complete the job in a timely manner. However, when God shuts one door, He opens another!

Englewood Christian Church and Community Development Corporation are doing some wonderful work in our neighborhood, and they were looking for space for their “Women in Motion” program working with women coming out of prison and reuniting with their families. They are purchasing our Stranger Project house on Oxford St. The work that we have done here will not be in vain, and while we will not be administering it, the house will still be used to provide housing to families in need just as we had planned.

The deal includes a trade for a smaller, single-family house that is already renovated and occupied by one of our families. Englewood’s purchase of the Stranger Project property would pay off the debt that we have incurred in the renovation process, and give us a house that is ready to go. It is a win-win situation! We believe that it is the direction that God is leading us, and we look forward to the future.

In time a community of faith will grow – neighbors living in proximity to each other and together demonstrating the wisdom of Christ in our inner city neighborhood. Though the plan has changed, the vision of the Stranger Project is still alive and well.
